Living room. Kitchen. Bedroom. Bathroom. These are the rooms you expect to find in any home. But what about a train room? A dog spa? Or even a wrapping room? There are all sorts of unique kinds of rooms you wouldn't expect to find in a typical home. Here are some of our favorites.
Specialized Playroom
Many families choose to dedicate a room in their home to fun and games for younger children. Some families take it a step further, turning the home's playroom into a world built around their child's favorite things. For example:
- A train playroom with tracks connecting along walls in addition to the floor and train tables.
- A doll playroom set up to mimic a babydoll-sized doll house with a kitchen, bedroom, and outdoor play set.
- A zoo or jungle with stuffed animals or plastic animals set in different areas of the room designed as animal habitats.
Dog Spa
Families with dogs know how messy it can be to bring a dog in when it's muddy, rainy, or snowy - common occurrences in the Chicagoland area! And bathing your dog can be a messy experience in and of itself. A room designed to be a dog spa could be the answer.
- Typically located near a back or side entry to the house with access to a fenced-in backyard.
- A washing station that's easy for dogs to step into with a sprayer to easily wash off the day's dirt.
- Storage for toys, leashes, poop bags, food, towels, and grooming supplies.
- A counter or table to place smaller dogs on for basic grooming, brushing, etc.
- Easy-to-clean flooring and plenty of access to fresh air to eliminate that wet-dog smell.
Wrapping Room
Getting out the wrapping paper and taking over the kitchen table to wrap gifts can be awkward and inconvenient. Some homeowners incorporate a wrapping room into their homes to make gift wrapping more efficient and more fun.
- A large, flat table or counter that easily fits a large roll of wrapping paper.
- Rods on a pegboard for ribbons and other supplies.
- Dowel rods to store rolls of wrapping paper.
- Flat shelving for flat wrapping paper and tissue paper.
- Vertical shelving for gift bags.
- Transparent, organized containers for bows, gift tags, pens, scissors, tape, and other supplies.
